I have a crazy idea! I want to cast on my August Colorwork Cuff Cluff sock, but my yarn order is no here yet. But what if I use Gnatty’s hat to practice the colorwork chart? With just the tiniest alteration, it should work!

It was super simple to make the sock chart work with my hat. Knit the ribbing per pattern. Knit 2 rows plain stockinette in main color befor starting colorwork chart.

1) Using magic loop with larger size 2 needles, divide the stitches of the hat into 2 sets of 24

2) turn the colorwork chart upside down and work from the base of the flower

3) using the chart for size “small & medium,” knit 2 repeats of the chart on needle 1 (22 stitches) then knit the remaining 2 stitches with background color, move to needle 2 and repeat
This will give you a 2-stitch background border down each horizontal side of both the front and back of the hat

NOTE: be very careful when shifting from needle to needle to give a lot of extra wiggle room in the float of the motif yarn being carried

After colorwork is complete, knit 2 rows plain stockinette in main color and bind-off per hat pattern.
