Notes

Mar. 11, 2011 Started Sweet Nostalgia by Mayumi Sato from the Oct. 1988 Magic Crochet. I have finished one other Mayumi Sato pattern and am impressed all over again with how impeccable her designs are. The pattern calls for #30 thread but I am using #20.

Mar. 17 I am up to about Round 26 or 27. No super serious problems so far other than having had to rip and re-do because of operator error once. That was painful since it was a dense section. I should have noted somewhere already that this design is charted ONLY.

April 4 Just added a picture where Round 42 has begun. There will be 50 rounds altogether. It has been ruffling some but looking at the chart for the next few rounds makes me think it should smooth out soon.

April 7 It is ruffling far too much (picture, fifth from bottom). I kept thinking the rounds would smooth out but I am going to rip back to about Round 42 or so and take out a single chain from the chain runs; and then re-assess. This is possibly a consequence of going up a thread size. You believe the tension of the alternate thread appears to be working up at the same ratio as the pattern suggests, but I am not enough of a math geek to actually figure it all out mathematically.

April 9 I keep worrying about ruffling and so this morning I stretched it out and pinned it down as if to block. I think it’s going to be OK. I think.

April 13 I made the following changes to reduce some of the ruffling: Round 42 was worked with (ch 6, tc) runs. Rounds 43 and 44 were a compromise and were worked with (ch 6, tc, ch 7, tc) around. The ruffling is much better.

Also be aware that Rounds 45 and 46 draw up the circumference some. It’s OK to go into those rounds with a little extra circumference.

April 19 I’m putting this one to bed for a while. Too much trouble with ruffling and I must take a break from it.

I am quite certain that going up a thread size is the genesis of the problem. I obviously didn’t get the correct rate of circumference increase going from the beginning and should have used a bigger hook.

Errata and Stuff

Round 11 shows too many dc in one of the petals. The second petal has an extra dc charted for that row.

Round 50 shows an improbable (chain 3, picot, chain 4, sc into chain below) in each set of stitches. This does not look right but upon examining the photograph of the finished doily, that appears to be exactly what Mayumi Sato did. I haven’t decided yet whether I will finish mine that way.
