This was inspired by lv2knit’s lovely version. I used this variation for the lacy inserts, and Susan was very helpful when I asked how she’d done the crochet bind off.

I didn’t want to copy her reply here, so these are my notes for the bind off -

Insert crochet hook into first three stitches as though to k3tog, pull yarn through, chain 7

(Insert crochet hook into next two stitches as though to k2tog, pull yarn though these two stitches and stitch on hook, chain 7) repeat this seven more times

For centre group of three stitches, insert crochet hook into next two stitches as though to k2tog and slip onto crochet hook, insert crochet hook into next stitch as if to knit, and pull yarn through all four loops on hook, chain 7.

(Insert crochet hook into next stitch as though to knit, insert crochet hook into next stitch as though to knit, pull yarn through all three loops on hook, chain 7), repeat seven more times.

Insert crochet hook into next stitch (at the top of the line of decreases) and pull yarn through, chain 7.

Repeat to last three stitches, insert hook into next three stitches, pull yarn through and fasten off.
