Notes

Main body of the blanket will take almost 3 skeins of the Blue Earth Print. Trim will be a shell stitch in the Baby Blue.

Oi… (2/2/13) Just discovered a stitch I have been missing ALL THE WAY THROUGH this entire pattern! I am at 19 inches square right now. Missing 1ch between every 3DC except (thankfully!) the ones at the corner. Harrumph. This is not enough to make me change things, but I am thinking that, perhaps, after this round I am on right now, I will start doing it and see how it goes. It would make the outer edges a bit looser than the inner ones… oh the dilemma! To change or not to change… Probably best to just keep it consistent.

2/3/13 (2am): Just finished what I will do of the main blankie. Comes to approximately 21 inches square in the Blue Earth Print yarn. Later (after sleep and spinning class!) I will begin with the Baby Blue yarn. I have decided that I will do the correct 3dc, 1ch, 3dc combination for the Blue. It is the trim, and a color change, so I think it will work out fine. (I did not add the chain stitch in on those last two inches of the main square) I am thinking two more rounds in the Baby Blue, then do a finishing trim of a shell stitch at the very end. That should make the whole thing at least 24 inches square, which I think is a perfectly respectable baby blanket. Then I just need to find an easy, cute hat pattern, probably a beanie with ears, and I will be done. The hat with be Baby Blue, with Earth Blue Print trim.

2/4/13: AAAARGGGHHHH!!!!! I started on the Baby Blue Trim… all was going well, until I came around the third corner the second time and saw that I forgot 2 (TWO!) DC stitches! Nooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! Right in the corner where it is very obvious, and this was supposed to be my last round of these stitches - I was just going to do a round of shell stitches to finish it off. Sigh. Now I have to decide whether to frog ALL the way back - a whole round - or let it be flawed… AND there was a knot in the yarn, so I have a join to deal with too… that could work out in my favor because I could go back further and it would be better hidden. Ick. Phooey. :-P I hope Heather appreciates this.

2/5/13: Well, I decided to carry on and do an extra round - sort of hiding the missing stitches a little further in. Not sure that will really be the case, but hubby and son convinced me that it did not need to be re-done. I have completed all 3 rounds of the Baby Blue and am trying to figure out how to finish it off… I was planning on a shell stitch to go all the way around, just need to figure out how much and where. I may go back and look at the sample at Beverly’s.

2/8/13: Finished crocheting on 2/6, just need to block. Decided to finish off with a single crochet stitch around the edge instead of the shell stitch. I am quite happy with it… EXCEPT for the fact that this Red Heart yarn in Baby Blue has so many knots in it! I’ve started the hat to match the blankie, and have found knot #3 and I am still in the first half of this skein. UNACCEPTABLE. Just wrote to Red Heart about it. We shall see if they respond.

2/16/13: Finished the blanket last week, (on 2/6) and finally blocked it yesterday. Went through several attempts for the hat. Finally made a small hat (came to about a 14 inch circumference) in rounds with DC for the main part of the hat in blue. Started doing something with 3DC in once space to make a brim in the variegated yarn, but it got bigger and was sort of ruffling and sticking out a bit. Looked good, but a bit feminine (very cute really!) and since I don’t know the parents, I went conservative. Frogged that and made a brim to turn up that was all SC. Probably 3 rounds until I ran out of yarn. Might have done more, but it was 5:00am and I had a cake to decorate for a banquet. No ears on hat. Still, Heather picked it up this morning and seemed to like it… I hope parents to be do too! I made sure she knew that it could go in the washer AND dryer… should be a little workhorse blankie that is easy to clean and can get dirty any time! Sending love to the baby - due on April Fool’s Day :-)

I’d say I am very happy with the blanket, a bit less so with the hat… but all in all, proud of myself.

Later…

FYI: I want to let people know that Red Heart sent me two HUGE GINORMOUS skeins of Baby Blue acrylic yarn. So far, no knots in either. They have been very handy for all kinds of projects with my daughter and Girl Scouts.

AND the parents sent me the sweetest thank you note for the blankie and hat blush
