Notes

2/12/2014 I like the simplicity of the pattern, and that the garter stitch ridges give a bit of extra grip on the wheel.
However, I wanted 1) thinner/finer fabric than the pattern calls for and 2) them funky colors from indie dyed sock yarn.
As it just so happens, I have some O.O.A.K.s (One of a Kinds) in my sock line (I call ‘em ’Slingshots’). This skein is an earlier version of what became the Fertile Turtles colorway.
I cast on 20 stitches. I’ll keep checking it for stretched fit when it gets around 30 inches long. The steering wheel is 49” around.
Did I mention I got a new (to me) car yesterday? Well, I did.

02/13/2014 I knit it to 32” long. It stretches a smidge past the target of 49” (about 51”), so it won’t be stretched to death when it comes time to stitch it onto the wheel. Which is right ‘bout now. ‘Scuse me, while I go do that …

Okay, the length is perfect, but the width ain’t. Too skinny to hug the wheel. So now I have a headband for an elephant. Or a linebacker with his helmet on. Cuss words were duly said.

Starting over, this time casting on 40 stitches (a provisional) … right after I finish this glass of wine.

02/14/14 I did get some pom-poms on the rear view mirror for a quick fix, lol. Ya know, while I knit on the wheel cover.

04/29/14 Finally finished it, lol. Knitted to 31 inches, and doing a 3-needle bind off. Time to go stitch it onto the wheel …
