I don’t have a fixed circular needle in size 9 that is long enough for doing magic loop, so I’m swapping down a size. (Using ChiaGoo Red Lace size 7 for brim and HiyaHiya Sharps size 8 for body. The sharp tips are coming in handy for the k3tog.)
I may add a pattern repeat… Or not. It would be nice if I could get a whole hat out of one skein, so I’ll just see how it looks when the time comes.
On the increase round after the brim, I ended up with one extra stitch, so on the following round, I k2tog on the last two stitches.
For the lace pattern, I found it helpful to put a stitch marker between each repeat (every 15 sts).
This yarn is turning out to be very nice to work with-- soft and springy and with a pleasantly silky texture. Too bad it’s been discontinued.
The hat turned out smaller than I’d have liked for an adult woman. I could have added another repeat to the height of the hat, but the width would still be a bit on the small side… The slightly smaller needles contributed something to that, but I’m not sure how much difference that alone would make. If I were to use this pattern again for an adult-sized hat, I’d probably consider adding a repeat “horizontally” as well as vertically. (Worthwhile to swatch, too.)
Anyway, while it technically does fit a small-to-average size adult head, I think it will fit a child more as I envisaged it (not pulled so tightly), so I plan to set this aside to put in with my young niece’s Christmas gift, next year.
I do like the pattern, still-- just wish it had come out a bit larger.
