I wanted a quick hat to put in with a Christmas gift, and this fit the bill. Very quick to work up. The only reason it’s going to take two days is that I started it fairly late in the evening on the first day and didn’t want to stay up later than usual to finish it.

I made the “child” size.

Used the larger hook for the slip stitch round (thought it might help keep it loose) and for the flower.

Added a button to the flower (after seeing it in someone else’s project photos).

One thing I don’t love is the visible seam (the “round-up chains”), but as I was unwilling to break the yarn every round for a seamless join, it was unavoidable. It’s not the most visible seam I’ve seen, but it’s still a detraction.

When I added the flower, I got so focused on making sure it was secure that I forgot to pay attention to positioning, which I didn’t really consider until I’d secured all the loose ends. It may be a little tiny bit off center, but it’ll be fine. (Just one of those nit-picking details that are irritating to the maker and never even noticed by anyone else.)

Verdict:
Cute pattern that works up very quickly. If you’re picky about “chain-up seams”, maybe give yourself some extra time to do the seamless join. It’s tempting to make these in a rainbow of colors, but one is probably enough. ;o)
