Buttons from Joann Fabric, sewn on by just holding a left over piece of yarn and pulling it apart into two strands. Then I was able to thread a darning needle with it. Quite sturdy.

Crochet cast on, then slipped the first stitch, knit the last stitch on every row for nicer edges.
