CO 95, US 13. Holding yarns double to make stitches. 9.5 x 16 over 4 inches, needing the extra length and width for smaller needle being used, CO for the 39 1/2 size, which will give me the intended measurement of 43 1/2 hips, 39 1/2 BUST. 8/24/2012

Starting waist shaping today, yeah, finally made it through the lower level.. Thinking I lost my mind. If it was not for ShannonLee’s great notes. I do not think I would have made it this far. She is very thorough explaining her steps.
Posted first photo.
Today finished the waist. Make sure to resume pattern, ie.. I forgot on garter stitch to stay in pattern, when working in round you have to alternate each row Pearl, and then Knit.
now going to decipher the rest of the pattern.,,,lol.. getting a little caught on the arm, picking up at the pearl bumps for separation from back and front.
The Pearl bump pick up went very easy, and it seams that the increases and decreases for my size were fairly easy as well. So, far, just the beginning of the vest was the worse. I will have to admit, the instructions are poorly written. The charts helped alot so far.
Made it up to the separations and the left side of the vest. Think for tonight, I will have to call it over and tomorrow is another day.
Pearl pick ups for sides
I have tried to illustrate alot of pictures for those that are having a hard time with the Pearl pick up for sides. i have had experience in this in Knitting a Drops sweater. Here is the reference showing a V split pick up for neck. Drops Jumper with Hood US Pattern Version. The pattern is free, but it gives you a little more explanation on how to do this pick up method. Hope that helps.
IN SIMPLE TERMS, YOU ARE ON THE WRONG SIDE, GOING TO PICK UP IN THE PEARL BUMPS 6,7,8 STS OR WHATEVER YOUR SIDE SAYS NEEDS TO BE PICKED UP

Finished back, my bind offs on and through out the arm opening for me was 9, 8, with 13 sts for sides remaining and on back, 9,8, 25 sts remaining.
Starting the right side in the morning. I am getting excited to see if all the frustration paid off. It seems to look as though it will be a very warm and beautiful vest. Thinking it has even inspired me to possibly make a sweater mod out of this on size US 10 needles.

Finished back and fronts of vest. Deciding at this point if i want a shawl collar, or a straight collar or a hood. Will decide tomorrow. I did sew the shoulder seams together and tried it on. Very nice fitting. Worked 49 rows before binding off. Where the pattern said omit rows for smaller size, I repeated rows once for length. I have a long body.
Over all I really am impressed with the way that it has turned out with the mods. I really did not like the look with the yo and p2togtbl. I am very glad I substituted stitches.

Decided on this vest to make a turtle neck collar. Work in pattern for 7 rows, switch to US 11 Needle, Knit until collar is 7 inches high, Bind off and sew collar down.

CLARIFICATION:
On page 78, the photo shows a crossover at the underarm. This crossover is achieved by working into the purl bumps behind the stitches on the needle. The instructions for placing the right-side purl bumps onto the holder are at the bottom of the first column on page 86, and the instructions for placing the left-side purl bumps onto the holder are at the top of the center column of the same page. Nothing needs to be done to these 6 (7, 7, 12, 15, 19) stitches until the back is worked (top of 3rd column): With the WS facing, place the left-side stitches, the back stitches and the right-side stitches onto needle.
