Hook: INOX C

Notes from prior projects.
When doing initial chain, placing stitchmarkers after stitch 24 and then after every 30 until the end where it’s after the 27th one (this is the marker at the 5th ch from the end and you get an easy way to track progress. When you get to Row 2, each stitchmarker is the beginning of a 3 edc / popcorn block / 3 edc block.
Requires 16 stitch markers
24-54-84-114-144-174-204-
234-264-294-324-354-384-
414-444-471 5 more stitches The 471 is not 30, it’s 27.

Row 2 has 31 popcorns. Do not count the popcorns as a stitch. Think of them as an adornment glued on afterwards and the stitch count for Row 2 will be accurate.

The popcorns are done between the EDCs of the row below, not into the EDCs.

Turning chains
At the ends where the designer suggests going backwards with slip stitches, I’ve been doing a quadruple crochet (3 wraps on hook) to replace the ch2+edc+3 sl st. Once I turn, I need to tighten the corner with a sl st. Then I do Ch 5 for the tch of the next row.

Completion Rate (does not include the fringe)
25% of the filets are complete by end of Row 5
50% complete Row 12
2/3 complete Row 17
75% complete Row 19

The peaks start on Row 15 (and then every 5 thereafter).
Pay attention to Row 14 for the ch2 instead of the ch 6. Decisions will need to be made when to use the current yarn for the body or join a new small amount of yarn for the peak.

Fringe: Row 1. At one point with the SCs along the fringe, one reaches back to connect at the 4th SC. If you place a strand of yarn after the 3rd SC, the 4th SC is easy to find.
(2) Reaching back can be done by kind of reaching under the SC across the way or reaching over. How you do it affects the twisting of the fringe. If you’ve used 5 beads, you want to make sure the beads are on the RS of the work.

………………………………………………………………………….

I’m using a yarn with unknown yardage but with a weight I know. I’ll have to weigh how much I’ve used at the end of Row 5 to make decision to continue or frog.

Total weight of yarn
390.1 gram

Miscounted the chains

I noticed that my first marker was placed after chain #18 and not #24. AARGH!

09-03-2021 I may have discovered my mistake from all the times I’ve made this

As I messed up row 2 once again, I pulled out a prior version of this and counted the number of DCs in Row 1. The successful version has 499 DCs and the one I’m working on only has 468. I’d guess the reason is that the instruction to chain 476 is off by 31.
Easy to see why. Every time I see the diagram, I want to have each block be 3 stitches because it looks like a filet crochet chart. Some of the blocks have 4 stitches.

But … as I keep reading the specific instruction for the popcorn block, it says to do the popcorn inbetween the stitches. I’ve got to try this out to see if it keeps me to 3 stitches per block. I’ve been counting the popcorn as one of the stitches and couldn’t see how the popcorn block was anything other than 4 stitches.

09-28-2021 Edging, fringe and beads

I’ve decided to use a slightly darker shade for the edging and fringe -- an analogous color. Because of its length this shawl seems to be worn wrapped around itself several times. I’m hoping that the effect of a darker border combined with even darker beads is a more interesting swirl of colors. I’m using a cotton thread for the border so I can use all the beads that are called for in the pattern.

09-28-2021 Border/fringe has begun; beads selected

After making a small square with the both colors and testing out how the beads would look, I asked E & S for their opinion and to suggest other colors. Both immediately said the frosted rainbow Tanzanite looked best -- the colors appeared like flowers in a field.

10-02-2021 Bead stringing complete

These beads are light enough I will be using 5 on each fringe strand.

10-06-2021 Halfway done with fringe / Yarn Chicken

Now I need to weigh the thread that’s left to see if I have enough.
Weight of thread + cardboard core: 28.6 grams
Cardboard core from an Omega thread: 13.6 grams
Remaining thead = 15.0 grams

I still need a small amount to finish off the edging.

It’s either yarn chicken or buy another entire ball of thread. I’m not much for yarn chicken.

10-09-2021 Finished except for the neatening

Had to get another ball of Cement because I was short less than half a gram.

Need to finish up a couple of ends and look for ends poking through. Then put away until the auction.

10-10-2021 Should have thought of this

As I finished weaving in the ends and started to put away the odds and ends, I realized that I could have unraveled the small test I did with the various beads and I would have had enough thread.
