It didn’t actually take a month and a half to knit this, it actually took about 10 days for each half. I would’ve finished the second piece earlier if I hadn’t been busy cleaning the house in preparation for moving.
Cast on loosely over a US 7 (4.5mm) and knit the body with a US 3 (3.25mm).
Used the no-purl method and found the instructions very clear and easy to follow.
I’m making mine in rainbow colors, starting on the outside with blue, purple, light purple, dark green, green, light green, yellow, orange, and red. Very excited!
3rd June- Got to halfway through the second pattern repeat!
1st July- Finally casting on for the second half!
Yardage Notes
I had barely any MC (blue) left and very little CC4 (med green) & CC8 (red).
Blocked Measurements
My large size is 9” deep and roughly 85” in circumference.
Tips & Tricks
-
Don’t use a circular smaller than 40” (100cm). Mine was 32” (81cm) and it was very crowded before decreasing at the cockleshells.
-
It’s easier when casting on to place markers every 21 stitches (1 pattern rep) to count your progress. Once you have 26 sections (large size) you are finished casting on. Be sure to count the sections instead of the markers because there will be 25 markers and 26 sections.
-
I definitely advise using markers every pattern repeat-- I used small jump rings because I found that regular beaded markers weighed my cowl down.
-
Use a crochet hook for making the cockleshells as per the video tutorial.
-
When grafting, make sure that the second half of the cowl (the piece with an extra knit row at the end) is in front! That’s very, very important for the grafting to work as written in the pattern!
