Really pleased with this, adding 2 rows of squares all around the blanket worked really well, even with the slightly different yarn colours.
Love the deep crochet edging and obviously that has increased the size too.
The edging makes the edge of blanket feel slightly heavier, which I think will be quite helpful in use.
I really hope Claire and Rosie like this bigger, improved blanket!
The plan:
I made a 7 x 5 squares blanket for Rosie for when she was born, Claire loved it soo much I said I’d make it bigger for her. I plan to remove the crochet edging, add squares around the outside, then apply a new crochet edge.
I’m thinking 9 x 11 would be nice, making it aproximately 34” x 42” (maybe plus a deep crochet edging if I get time).
So 99 squares, minus the original 35 squares = 64squares.
I only have a little bit of 1 colour left of the original scrap yarns, so I ordered some stylecraft special dk to do the extra squares in.
So I figure if I put the original 7x5 panel in the middle and then make it 2 squares wider on each side with the new squares it should look good.
I’ve got 9squares of 1 of the original colours, so I need 55 squares out of the 4 new colours. (13 of each + 3)
Crochet edging;
R1: Candyfloss - 2sc into each bump on each square all the way around.
R2: 1tr into each stitch in the previous round. Working 2tr, 2ch, 2tr in each corner.
R3: Apricot - 1sc, skip 1, ch1, repeat.
R4: Wysteria - 1sc into row below, sk1, ch1, repeat.
R5: sc around, 1sc, ch2, 1sc in each corner.
R6: Apricot - 1sc, skip 1, ch1, repeat.
R7: Clematis - 1sc into row below, sk1, ch1, repeat.
R8: tr around, 2tr, ch2, 2tr into each corner.
R9: Shells in Clematis. Worked in tall trebles. Join, * skip 3, 9 ttr into next st, skip 3, slip st into next stitch, * repeat to corner and then all sides. Stitch count may need adjusting slightly to make the shells fit neatly, so skip 4 as needed.
Ran out of Clematis with a few stitches to go! Ugh. Undid several shells and worked them slightly tighter. Jut enough yarn. :)
Photo is unblocked.
Needs washing then steam blocking to relax the crochet edging a little. The woven squares had already been steam blocked after sewing together.
