Notes

I wanted to experiment with bigger crochet projects (than my previous Amigurumi experiences), preferably with repeating patterns, so I don’t need to count that much :) I also wanted to try to get a lace border, which is new to me too.

The body for this triangular scarf is just three double crochets in every ‘hole’ and in the begin and end of the row, using this video.

For the edging, I used the All Shawl pattern, which is really lovely and also not too difficult for novices like me. I was using acrylic yarn and read that blocking wouldn’t have much effect on it. After finishing the border I noticed that it was kind of crumpled and curly and the points wouldn’t stay pointy (see the last picture), so I was very disappointed. Fortunately, I came across some information and a video about steam blocking acrylic yarn, so I pinned the scarf to the couch and used my hand steamer to block it. After a couple of minutes, it was suddenly all nice and even and much softer! The effect of steam blocking acrylic yarn is really miraculous! It changes the drape, shape, softness and makes the stitches look prettier.
