I wanted the brain to be bigger than the dragon’s nose (they are highly intelligent creatures, after all), so I adapted the pattern by replacing body rounds 8-10 with these (adding 3 extra rounds and adjusting the others):
8: 4sc inc sc inc sc inc sc inc 3sc (18)
9: 8sc inc sc inc 7sc (20)
9a: sc in each st (20)
9b: sc in each st (20)
9c: 8sc dec sc dec 7sc (18)
10: 4sc dec sc dec sc dec sc dec 3sc (14)

I also really liked the ridges underneath the wings (and was happy to learn a new stitch) so I front-posted on both sides of the wings.

I couldn’t get the backspikes right so I altered this to:
small: chain 3, sc, hdc, sc
big: chain 3, sc, dc, sc
