This is how I do my hearts:
ch 4 join in ring (or do a magic ring), leaving a 15cm tail, ch2.

Working in ring: dc tr 5dc ch tr ch 5dc tr dc ch2, join in ring with a sl st. Cut the yarn leaving a 15cm tail.

Tie both ends 2 times, pull one end from back to front side through the center.
