Made this for my niece Faith as a little purse to match the LOVe shawlette. I was happy that the pattern included tips for substituting the lace pattern. I made two 25” i-cords, which I tied in bows on either side, and drew up into handles on the other. I made a firm bottom by taking the clear plastic disc you find at the top of a cdr or dvdr spindle and wrapping it with yarn. It fit perfectly with my modded circle size (an extra increase was used, as described in my notes below.)
I made some changes to the top. I initially forgot two of the three knit rows before the eyelet row, simply from not reading carefully. After the eyelet row I did add the knit rows. But instead of binding off in purl according the pattern, I knit 2 or 3 extra rows then bound off with lace purl bind off.
I wish I could have used my favorite cord method for the drawstrings, but the Baby Beehive will not slide at all, no matter how loose I made the slipknot. Grrrr, I was forced into making i-cords instead. Also, I switched to my ChiaoGoo bamboo 24” circs in size 3 for making the i-cord. The Addis were too slippery.
Instead of the Sunstruck needles in size 3 that I used for the shawlette, I’m using a 32” Addi Lace Turbo size 3 and magic loop. These are much more suited to the yarn, which I’m still not a fan of, but it’s getting gradually better. I don’t know if I’d like Knitpicks or Knitters Pride nickel-plated tips better.
I added an extra few rounds, including a k1, kfb plus two knit rounds, then decreased as necessary to get to 112 stitches. For the lace pattern I’m using the Lily of the Valley pattern from the LOVe shawlett. Each row will have 7 sixteen stitch repeats.
