Roughly following jamie500’s mods for this chunky yarn with “knit” meaning “knit in pattern”:

I needed to adjust the pattern for bulky yarn. After checking gauge I found that multiplying the total number of stitches by 57% got me close enough.

Cast on 52 stitches.
Knit 7.5 inches.
Knit 17 sts, bind off next 18 sts, knit 17 sts.
Work 17 sts, cast on 18 sts, knit 17 sts.
Continue until 11.5 inches total.

Decreases:

Divide sts into 4 sections
Rd 1- dec 2 sts
Rd 2- dec 2 sts (but from opposite sections)
Rd 3- dec 4 sts
Rd 4- dec 4 sts

I kept going in this way until there were 6 stitches left.
I knit 3 together 2 times and tied it off.
