I made this for my daughter once. But my oldest son appropriated it. He loved it! So, I am going to make it again. I am not sure if this shade of yarn will look very manly. If not, it goes to my daughter. If it does, then I will give him another hat. Since I know he likes this style hat, then it’s a great gift for Xmas!
Join
I did the invisible join each round to close up the gap better. Doing a regular join gave me a large gap and a seam that ran around the side of the hat. That was really icky.
My first hat had a problem with the join looking super obvious, too. Seems that is a common problem with this pattern.
Sizing
Measure the diameter before you start the stripe. You can always decrease before you get to the stripe. Or, you can just not do increases in the first row of the brim.
I just carried my MC across the back of the stripe.
Stripe
Join, ch 2 and then dc in back loop of the same stitch. This way there is no gap from your first ch 2.
Brim
I am not going to do any increases in the 1st row of the brim. The hat may be a little large for my daughter but probably a good fit for a son.
Not sure if I like this in Chenille. The yarn may be too soft for this hat pattern. Well, we will see after it has been washed.
