Notes

I wanted a nice cowl for myself after making things for everyone else this Christmas! :)

I had nearly two skeins of this luscious Misti Alpaca chunky in my stash.

Finished dimensions 10” wide, nearly 10” tall.

PATTERN:

Knitted with two strands.

Gauge 3 stitches per inch.

Cast on 52 stitches on size 10 1/2 circulars (16 inch)

I used long tail cast on. (allowed approx 72 inches long tail to make it without running out)

Garter stitched (which, for circular knitting is knit one round, purl one round, repeat) a few rounds at beginning and ending to prevent curling. I didn’t even count the rounds, so these sections are not symmetrical on mine. If you want symmetry, work 6 rows garter after your cast on and 6 rows before your bind off.

Knitted stockinette (knit every round) the rest of the time. That’s it! Easy peasy soft and squeezy. Worked until I had about 140 inches left on the ball by end of a round. 140 inches left me just enough to do the bind-off round.

Used basic/traditional bind off. Wove in all ends, and then put it on!

As a side note, if you allow approx 72 inches of yarn per round (except for the bind-off which uses more yarn), you can estimate how much you need as you near the end of the skeins. I wanted to be sure to use all of mine up, and it worked out well. I only had 10 inches or so of yarn leftover, which gets cut up and goes in my tin of little yarn bits for the birds in spring when they are nestbuilding!
