Notes

Finally a pair of socks I can finish in less than a month! Actually these took less than two weeks.

The pattern:
Cast on 24 stitches using JMCO on a long circular. Increase 4 stitches in odd numbered rounds until you reach your desired stitch count (I used 64 stitches, which is a wee bit loose for me with this yarn/needle combo. Size zeros next time.)

Knit until almost to instep/ankle crease, then cast off center 24 stitches on instep. (Next time I’ll try center 20, or even 18.)

Knit back and forth on remaining 40 stitches until you are about 1/2 to 3/4 inches short of desired length.

Heel turn according to your favorite method. I did it using German short rows, per Roxanne Richardson’s excellent videos. knit 30, turn and work, purl 20, t&w, k19, t&w, p18, t&w, etc, down to p12, t&w. Now knit through all center and turning stitches, until ten stitches remain. Turn, slip 1, purl to last turning stitch and purl it together with next stitch. Turn, slip one, knit to until one st. remains before gap, k 2tog TBL, turn, slip one, purl to until one st. remains before gap, p 2tog, turn, repeat last two rows until all side stitches are worked.

Bind off live stitches, leaving last stitch live. With a 2 mm crochet hook, work a round or two of single crochet around leg opening. Decrease as necessary to fine-tune fit, by skipping every third or fourth stitch along the side edges.

I saw a fellow knitter’s Turkish Bed Socks and thought I would improvise some for myself. Seems like I should be able to knit a long toe to fit my foot, then cast off some stitches over the arch and knit the remaining stitches back-and-forth. Not sure yet how I’ll do the heels. Something from my toe-up arsenal of patterns should suffice.

This single skein of Luxury Sock was the only one in the bin from its dye lot, so I bought it thinking it could be used with other yarns, but now I’m happy that it will be allowed to stand on its own.
