Calcium Oxalate is a crystal waste product of metabolism. It is formed in either the intestines or kidney. Kidneys are part of the renal system. Calcium Oxalate is a relativly normal finding in urine. It may be formed after consumption of oxalate rich foods such as apples, tomatoes, oranges, spinach, asparagus, carbonated beverages and large doses of vitamen C. Calcium oxalate will also be found in the urine in massive amounts after the ingestion of ethylene glycol (antifreeze).

Nog, a ferengi, is quite interested in U-manns. He eventually is the first Ferengi to join Star Fleet and attend the Academy. One of Nog’s favorite things is Root Beer an earth drink. Root Beer of course is a carbonated beverage. So it is likely that calcium oxalate can be found in Nog’s urine.

I’ve knit the calcium oxalate with Peaches and Cream color 12 gold, as Nog is an engineer aboard DS9. Engineering and secuirty staff wear Yellow/gold in all the ST series from TNG and beyond.
