Notes

John bought this yarn several years ago, during his rather short bout of knitting. I thought it was the ugliest thing I’d ever seen, and it stayed hidden in his tiny, little stash for a long time.

Finally, I decided to use it to make some surprise socks for his birthday.

These socks were fun to knit, but the Noro was hard on my hands on the size 1 needles. This yarn is a thick and thin that goes from about laceweight in some parts all the way to worsted in others. Next time I use it, I’ll go up a few needle sizes.

As for the colours, I was really happy with how they turned out. Despite how ugly it was in the skein, with the colours dispersed by the black stripes (and because I didn’t end up getting to the sections with uglier colours), it’s actually turned out to be really pretty.

The foot ended up a bit too short; I could’ve done two more stripes. But he loves them and claims that they fit perfectly, so I suppose it’s okay. :)

The Silk Garden sock weighs 94g in the skein.
The On Your Toes weighs 94.4g.

Going to try to match the stripe colours. Dividing Silk Garden into two skeins.

First skein begins with 5 yds of light blue leading into fuchsia, then green, yellow, pink, light blue, pink, green, blue, turquoise, red.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that one repeat of all the colours actually took up almost exactly half the skein, so I should be able to match the stripes without wasting any yarn.

This is my first time using Noro and I’ve heard how annoying it can be with knots and abrupt colour changes, but there’s none of that in this skein, thankfully.

Doing 3-row stripes of Noro with 4-row stripes of On Your Toes.
