Notes

Suggestion from the The Walking Dead forum. Moira51 used Stroll Tonal and it turned out great (make small points from black instead tho).

Ordered yarn from Smileys Yarns.

February 7, 2020

Started; had to rip a bit because I was off on the textured pattern and ended up with some ribbing. Similar to Franklin Habit’s Winter something triangle scarf but the texture rows are alternating starting with K and P on the WS. Need to learn to read my knitting better. Also am afraid I have more stitches on one side than the other due to forgetting to increase. Will have to eat that frog and count the stitches…

Anyway, am enjoying this pattern very much already! Hoping to get an even larger shawl due to using Sportweight yarn.

February 12, 2020

Left at the Airport! Waaah.

February 17, 2020

Starting over with new needles and a new ball of yarn.

February 21, 2020

Started second skein. Definitely want at least 4 skeins.

February 22, 2020

Halfway through the second skein. Stopping in case I can’t get more.

February 28, 2020

Got more yarn; starting again.

Figured out the pattern.

Always k3, yo … yo, k3.
RS: k till center stitch, f to back, k back. K center stitch (always). Back to front, knit front. K across.
WS: every other row starts with k/p. Look about 6 stitches in. The stitch that looks like 3 purl stitches stacked up should be knitted. Count k, p, back to beg of row.

March 4, 2020

Got 2 more skeins of MC.

I don’t like the way the points are designed. It seems like you need to start a strand of MC after the first 10 stitches--more ends to weave in.

What I’m doing:
Shawl Point Detail
Row 1 (RS): With CC1 (blue black), k3, yo, k10, turn.
Partial Row 2 (WS): Continuing with CC1, k11, yo, k3. turn.
Partial Row 3 (RS): With MC, k3, yo, k to marker, M1L, sm, k1, sm, M1R, k to last 3 sts, yo, k3. (end of row)
Now we have Row 1 complete, and the beginning and end of Rows 2 and 3 in CC1. We continue with MC to complete rows 2 and 3 as short rows.
Row 4 and rest of Row 2 (WS): With MC, k3, yo, k1, *p1, k1, rep from * to CC1 sts, turn (possibly pu st from edge of last CC1 st, k2tog with MC1). (Row 2 complete.)
Rest of Row 3 (RS): Continuing with MC, k to marker, M1L, sm, k1, sm, M1R, k to last 3 sts, yo, k3. (end of row; Row 3 complete)
Rest of Row 4 (WS): With MC, k3, yo, p1, *k1, p1, rep from * to last 3 sts, yo, k3. (Row 4 complete)

March 7, 2020

One point done. Working on the second point. I like my new method of doing points.

March 9, 2020

All 3 points knit; on row 3 of the last set of Point rows.

I have a lot of yarn left so I may do some extra rows between these and the big colored stripes. I want this thing to be BIG.

March 11, 2020

Started the green stripe! I think I’ll do 3 ridges instead of 2, like others have done. Will start the last ball of MC after the green.

March 12, 2020

I really enjoy this pattern, but it is hard to tell on the WS whether you should be knitting or purling the first stitch. So I made an image to help others out, I hope. On the WS, I look at the stitches past the YO, find 3 purl bumps and call that a K, then assign P, K, P, K back to the YO, and start with that kind of stitch. (After doing the new YO, that is.)

See the last photo for an illustration of the purl bumps.

March 13, 2020

Started the red stripe! Going to do 3 ridges for each CC and MC from now on.

March 14, 2020

Yellow stripe done!

March 15, 2020

Navy stripe done; two rows MC to go and then the bindoff!

March 17, 2020

Knitting is done! Need to weave in ends.

March 17, 2020

Total weight is 278g. Last ball of MC has 25g left. Total MC left is 33g.

April 11, 2020

Washed and pinned out! Used my table downstairs after washing on Warm/Gentle.

April 12, 2020

Finally done! Was a bit damp after having been pinned out all night, so I gave it a tumble in the dryer and it’s dry and seems even softer!

Wove all ends in. Glad I modified the points to have fewer ends to weave in.
