Notes

These ducks will be for my art project about bullying. I wanted to make some “normal” ducks and a very striking duck… A duck that does not seem to fit in with the rest.

I have always felt like an odd duck… I seemed not to fit into the group… Due to the bullying I felt very insecure. But recently I have discovered that I can also be proud to be different. Everyone is an unique human being, and it would be boring if we were al the same… No need to pretend to be as everybody else… I am proud to be me. And therefore I have made a very striking duck, different from the others, but not inferior!

These duck will be part of the transformation “book” or wall panel. Together with the chameleon and other still to make animals… For the whole project have a look at my website. English text scroll down.

The pattern is for the biggest part from Melba, from the ifff-freeform group at Ravelry. You can find it in the Sensational Spirals and Pretty Paisleys CKAL from this group, week 6. I just changed it a bit, making the spiral at the other side, so that it could become the head. I also added a beak to it.

In the pattern of Melba I skipped just this part:
With color 1, sl 1, k2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog. and I went on with the next row with color 1:Turn, Sl 1, k2tog, PSSO, K to last to 2 sts, k2tog, then pick up sts along the salvage edge, 1 st per row.

The beak was made by picking up 5 stitches and knitting in stockinette (1 row knit- 1 row purl), and in each knitting row knitting the first 2 stitches together, till there are 3 stitches left. Then in the purl row purl 2 together at the end of the row and bind off the last 2 stitches in the next row.
For the proud bird I added a little bit of crochet on top of the head.
