Notes

Inspired by Larisa’s Heavy Cloud No Rain . I had two skeins and a partial third one of Kidsilk Night in my stash and foolishly thought this would yield a long enough scarf. I cast on about 80 stitches and knitted them on the bias. The knitted piece, once blocked, was too small for a scarf but just right for a cowl. This is a very versatile piece, very warm and just long enough to look good when doubled around the neck, yet very portable too. It takes no space at all rolled up in a handbag and weighs perhaps less than a feather.

The beauty of stockinette on the bias is NO ROLLING EDGES! The edges lie beautifully, flawlessly flat. I am going to make more of these eminently wearable accessories, but from now on I will make sure to start with a provisional cast-on, so that I can kitchener the piece nicely and eliminate that rather ugly oblique seam lying in the back of my otherwise divine silver cloud of a cowl.
