Notes

This sweater was born of my desire to make the most out of beautiful, stashed, discontinued Rowan Yorkshire tweed. I didn’t have enough red for an entire sweater but wanted to avoid stripes. It occurred to me that knitting the sweater from the top down would allow me to maximize the use of the red on the body, filling in other parts of the sweater with grey and black.

Ann Budd’s The Knitter’s Handybook of Top-down Sweaters was an essential help in this. I followed her recipe for a set-in sleeve construction. I added a purled phony seam to delineate front and back on the body.

I saved just enough red to add one stripe on the turned turtleneck collar as I am not fond of dark grey or black framing my (grey-haired) face.

Rowan Yorkshire tweed had such gorgeous colorways -- sigh.
