Notes

Sample knit for the 2019 Galt House of Yarn sock club, July sock. I designed the colour first and the sock much later. I was going for a simple ribbed texture so that the pattern wouldn’t fight with the brilliant ultraviolet colour.

You will not believe how many times the first sock cuff was frogged and re-designed until I got the slipped-stitch rib motif exactly the way I wanted it. Such is the sock design process, I think;)

I make up most of my socks as a I go, but this one was intended to be graded and carefully written up for others to enjoy, so I took a very different design approach and did all my calculations in advance of casting on. Within the first few inches I was a little concerned that knitters might find the rib pattern a little too fiddly and uncomfortable to sustain over 2 socks… but by the time I reached the first heel, the pattern was comfortable and really quite easy on the hands. I actually enjoyed knitting the rest of that sock and the 2nd sock.

I typically use the small 2.25mm needles to get a nice dense sock fabric. I like the squishiness of the fabric, and the durability it adds.
