Notes

A beautiful, cozy and colorful blanket finished for my son, Ben! I finished Tim’s Lizard Ridge Afghan (just under the wire!) last year for 2009 and now, I’ve just finished making one for Ben this year. Yay!

For the centers of some of the squares, I’m using Noro Kureyon remnants that I’d saved from Tim’s blanket.

UPDATE: Finally finished Ben’s blanket!!!

After making all of the squares (which only took me a month), I procrastinated on sewing up the squares until the middle of July. But, I got the motivation to finish it and I’m glad I did. I love it and Ben loves it, too!

How I sewed it up:

-My squares were approx. 1 ball of Noro Kureyon each with scrap ends from other balls for the centers. (10.5” square)

-They are 40 sts across (4 “widths) and I used the Cascade Eco+ to pick up 40 sts on one side of the square. After 5 garter ridges were done, I left sts on the needle and did the same process to the neighboring square. After both were done, I did 3 needle bind off to attach them.

-I followed the same process for the rest of the squares across a strip (4 across for 4 strips).

-To sew up the 4 strips, I did the same thing again. Picked up 40 sts across the top of each square and 10 for each “border”. Each strip had 150 sts across. Followed the same for another strip and finished off with 3 needle bind off again.

-After all 4 strips were attached, I picked up up 150 sts from the edges of one side and knit 5 garter ridges then bound off with the “k2tog, put back on left needle, k2tog” across method. Repeated for opposite side of the blanket.

-For the last 2 sides, I picked up 160 sts (5 sts edging + 150 sts of blanket+ 5 sts edging) and again knit 5 garter rows with the same bind off method. Repeated for the other side.

-The size of the finished blanket (54” square) is BEFORE blocking.
