Notes

I was inspired by sweetdrk1 to knit this pattern in gray colors. I saw her knit on Facebook and I was in love!

I used a DK yarn called Frog Tree Lambrosia which feels so wonderful! I bought the pattern last night online at Three Irish Girls Yarn Inc.

I cast on 133 stitches to make this poncho deeper. I will be adding more to the length as well since I am a larger gal.

June 22, 2015: I have finished the first section. I decided to use my lightest yarn color first. I knit 40 rows (which measured about 5.5 inches - 48 grams remain of color 1, 1st skein) before starting the color change section. I did a Russian Join because I ran out of skein one on the third row of the last color change set of rows 1-4. I only used a little of skein two of my lightest color to finish up the color change.

I was a little confused regarding the color change. I emailed the designer for help and she was very kind and helped me understand what I was missing. Sometimes my brain can’t wrap itself around knitting instructions! I am now merrily on my way. I really love the color change design on this pattern and I am looking forward to wearing it all of the time! This project is all mine! :) Today I started the second section with color two.

June 24, 2015: I completed color two (34 grams of color 2, 2nd skein remain) today and I am starting on color 3 . I am modifying for my size and knitting as follows;
Color 1: 5.5 inches
Color 3: 6.5 inches
Color 3: 7.5 inches
Color 4: 8.5 inches

I will be knitting the cowl neck on this pattern.

June 28, 2015: After I started the second color change I realized that I had made a mistake when I knit the first color change. I am not sure how I made the error but the mistake runs all along the top of the first color change. It looks like I slipped a stitch of the first color instead of knitting the second color. I am fixing it now. I am dropping the stitch above the mistake all of the way down to the error, correcting it and using my crochet hook to get back to the top of my knitting. Everything else looks correct. I am disappointed but I think it will be all right.

I did manage to fix everything today and it looks good. Onwards and upwards!

June 29, 2015: I am starting color 4.

August 30, 2015: I finished color 3 and started color 2.

August 31, 2015: I finished color 2 and started color 1.

September 2, 2015: I am starting the edging on the end of color 1.

September 4, 2015: Almost finished with the provisional cast-on edging. Yay! I am loving this project!

I finished the provisional cast-on edge during my lunch hour at work. I just need to weave in the few yarns ends that remain (I always weave in the ends as I go). I used Jeny’s Super Stretchy Bind-Off because I always seem to bind-off projects too tight.

After I block this poncho I will start work on the cowl. Yay! Almost finished and I am in love with my poncho already!

September 6, 2015: I finished the cowl and blocked it. Even after blocking, the cowl has a tendency to fold downwards which shows the wrong side. I might fold the cowl inward and stitch it down.

September 7, 2015: I decided to stitch the cowl collar down. You can’t see the slip stitch pattern on the outside of the cowl because of this but it still looks great! It is very warm doubled! Excellent pattern, I would knit this project again! Next time I would knit the cowl collar with the WS side of the poncho facing and stitch down the cowl so the slip stich pattern would show on the outside of the cowl. My neck is short and the cowl as originally knitted was too long and it would flip over and show the wrong side of the knitting which kind of bugged me but that’s just me. I love this poncho pattern! The slip stitch pattern with the color transitions is what drew me to this pattern. Great idea!

I will have photos showing the entire project tomorrow.
