Notes

1-14-20 - Finished! I was trying to figure out how to join the piping. Not totally happy with that part, but I LOVE the pillow! It looks great on the couch! I stuffed a 20” pillow form inside, but I think an 18” will fit better. It makes the flap pucker too much, and the fabric is really stretched to the point that the insert is visible. I will probably make another pillow, but maybe a different look.

1-11-20 - Started sewing the case together. Since I am making a back overlap type case, I had to hem the 2 raw edges, and i chose to work by hand. It seemed to take forever to do! Sewing the side seams were a lot quicker. Now I’m sewing on the piping, which could take a while. But looks good so far!

1-8-20 - The cloth is washed, looks great! I’m amazed at how nice it all looks, my sloppy areas are all fixed from blooming! I did a quick measure, and it is the same size as prewash, even though it needs to be ironed. I started a woven piping on my inkle loom, working a tube that will be sewn around the edges of the cover. Using worsted Wool-Ease for the piping reminds me how sticky the Wool-Ease was in the shed. It is hairy, catches a lot, and this black sheds like crazy.

1-7-20 - The weaving is finished. Measures 18” x 48” off the loom. It has a lot of width-wise stretch, but zero stretch lengthwise. I’m going to check if this will fit a 20” x 20” pillow form, for a firm pillow, or if I need an 18” x18” instead. Thinking of doing a binding, maybe woven or maybe i-cord. Still deciding.

1-4-20 - Started warping this New Year’s Eve because I wanted to be ready to weave for the new year. Since the warp had to be longer than my available space, I watched some videos on using a warping board. Which I don’t have, but I do have an inkle loom! So built up my confidence and got started. I clamped the inkle loom on it’s side, found my path and warped up the loom fairly quickly. My back was not happy, so I took frequent breaks.

I wanted to try a simple warp float design, inspired by weaving found in my research. The trick was figuring how to do it. I got a Purl & Loop sampling loom for Christmas, so I made a small sample to see if it would work, and if I liked it. Yes, yes I did! I didn’t make a real big swatch, or finish it by washing because I will just get a pillow form to fit when all is done. So far, it is easy to work and I’m loving the results! I am really excited about this project, and I hope my enthusiasm continues until it’s done!
