My first socks! If you, like me, don’t understand how people can say “easy to memorize pattern” (I’m always looking down at the pattern), then this is a good project for you. I actually DID memorize the pattern, and with the exception of the toes and the heels was able to put the pattern down after about 1/4 of the first sock.
Firsts:
-
First time making socks
-
First provisional cast-on
-
First time reading a chart
-
First time using needles smaller than US 3
-
First project of 2008
March 31: OMG, you guys. I’m finally done!!! They even fit.
March 10: Last night I sat down and refused to get up again until I’d turned the heel! Must finish second sock!
Feb 26: I’m about to turn the heel on the second sock. I’m tired of socks. Socks take too long. Of course, this is because I keep putting it aside, but still.
Jan 31: I finished the first sock several days ago. I don’t like the length at all. I wish it were longer, but I only have 1 skein per sock. Also, I mis-judged when to start the ribbing, so the ribbing is really deep. That doesn’t bother me as much as the length being awkward. I have yet to cast on for the second sock. but I will.
I don’t love knitting socks. I want to go back to baby gifts!
Jan 15: there is a hole on either side of the heel…wonder how that happened. Also, I think I am tired of knitting socks. And I’m still on my first one. My feet are too big. I mean my actual feet, not the feet of the sock. The foot used up so much yarn that the leg of the sock is going to be too short.
Jan 5: Last night I was heartbroken. Something was off on the pattern. I assume it’s my fault, not the pattern’s fault. I tried tinking back a few rows, but it wasn’t becoming clear what had gone wrong. So I ripped all the way back to the first row of the chart and started again. Boo! Now I am being very careful to do the chart exactly as written. If it happens again I’ll reconsider.
Jan 3: I made an error on the spiral pattern -- must have repeated a row -- but I tinked back 4 rows and fixed it. Whew!
Jan 2: I think the best “wrap and turn” tutorial, including a great way to hide wraps, is the two-part video tutorial Cat Bordhi posted on YouTube.
