Using a bunch of inherited stash yarn, as well as stash I acquired but didn’t record purchase of. Realized after I began that some of these balls won’t be enough. The Sugar’n Cream at least is still made so should be able to get more. Don’t care about dye lots for this project. That Danish Petite? If I can find something similar in color and weight that’s machine washable, I’ll be happy.

Learned how to do the mitered squares from Cheryl Brunette’s YouTube video. Clear, and easy to follow.

Squares are 32 sts on a side, plus 1 st for the diagonal. Now, what was I doing for the double decrease along the miter line?

2014/4/19 -- Well, that inherited yarn came in widely varying quantities. So picked up some supplement yesterday. Easy to find the Sugar’n Cream. Obviously different dye lots, but the solid yellow is not noticeably different. Two new balls labeled “Daisy Ombre” but quite different--bright yellow and white rather than the graded shades of yellow on the old ball. Got a new gold which really is a lot brighter than the old ball, but will use it anyway.

2014/4/20 -- The first photo represents the lower left corner. The squares are set on the diagonal, and the edges filled in with triangles. The squares are made in diagonal rows. The next square is joined to the open edge of the far taupe triangle.

2015/1/28 -- I realized that some of the old vintage yarns I grabbed for this project don’t have yardage recorded. I’m going to make up figures so that this project will show up on my yarn usage report.

2015/2/15 -- The Sayelle has been used down to where there probably isn’t a square’s worth. So, this skein provided 4 + ? full squares.

2015/3/11 -- Ran out of the lemon yellow color. Taking a break until I can get some more.

2019/11/13 -- About to start square #28, in the variegated. Found the yarn. Wow. Picking this up again 4 1/2 years later.

2019/11/14 -- Finished unit #28, that’s 33% done. Yeah, I know those edge units are only half size, but it’s easier to count.

2019/11/16 -- You are not imagining it -- that new gold edge triangle is a different color. In grabbing yarns from the stash, I completely neglected to try to estimate how much of each color would be needed. I had one ball of the gold, and it was an old, inherited yarn that I don’t think is even made anymore. The new color is the closest I could find in the right weight. Oh well. I’m still happy with this thing.

The yardage for the Caron Honeyspun is a guess--not given on old labels.

2020/3/25 -- Figured out that properly counting the edge triangles as 1/2 units, have 60 squares + (24 triangles/2) = 72 units total. So more accurately at 38% done now. Finished one skein of Honeyspun white, and started the second skein.

2020/4/8 -- Having never bothered to figure yardage before starting, and now being in COVID-19 lockdown, doing a lot of scavenging in the inherited stash. Plus, had bought a bit last year. Now using Bucilla for the Oyster. Found a bright yellow (probably purchased last year), and a bit of left-over pale yellow Sugar’n Cream, that can be mixed with white to stretch into more Variegated. So, can continue making progress.

2020/5/10 -- Mixed the remaining gold Danish Petite into one of the border gold triangles.

2020/5/13 -- 2/3 done!

2022/11/9 -- Evaluating what more yarn is needed to complete this thing. I believe there’s enough of current incarnations of Beige, White, Oyster, and Gold. Need more Yellow, Lemon, and Variegated (yellow/white). Let’s try Knit Picks.

2022/11/10 -- Have ordered some more yarn for Yellow, Lemon, and Variegated.

2022/12/4 -- After a bizarre gap in the shipping stream, have some new yarn from Knit Picks.

2022/12/24 -- On the very last unit of the main pattern. Have decided to add a border, in the Oyster color. Dug out the ChiaoGoo 40” #4 circs for handling the long edges. The main pattern is done! Now to weave in some ends to have clean edges to pick up the border.

2022/12/29 -- Third border done, one more to go.

2022/12/31 -- Final border knitted! Just have to weave in the ends.

The borders like to curl in a bit. Maybe for the next blanket go up a needle size for the borders.

2023/1/1 -- Or better yet, brush off the geometry to figure out how many increases to make in the borders so that they will lie flat. Watch for the upcoming Border Prototype Blanket!

2023/1/3 -- So curled corners that will not lie flat. Will be testing a solution. Also testing a nicer layout of the directions of the squares. Also testing knowing how much yarn to get before starting the thing. Obviously need to learn more about using the sun lamp for photos. All that said, it’s still a perfectly functional blanket and has been added to the bed. Numa, the Lion, approves.
