Whee! NU has three lines of worsted weight wool on the shelves next to each other, making it simple to put together something that requires so many colors. Thank you, NU!

Until I have enough knitted to show, you can see the spreadsheet where I’m recording the temperature data for 2013.

My temperature “thermometer” for this year:

Red -- 100º F and above
Red-orange - 90-99º F
Orange -- 80-89º F
Yellow-orange -- 70-79º F
Yellow -- 60-69º F
Yellow-green -- 50-59º F
Green -- 40-49º F
Blue-green -- 30-39º F
Blue -- 20-29º F
Blue-violet -- 10-19º F
Violet -- 0-9º F
Red-violet -- Below 0º F

The scarf is 43 sts wide, double knitted. The lengthwise striping is formed by switching the front and back colors at intervals:

As of today, when I bought the yarn and will shortly cast on, I still don’t have green on my recorded data. We have yet to hit 40º F this year. And way too much red-violet for my taste, but what should I expect, living in Minnesota?

2013/2/17 -- Having begun the knitting, I realize that this thing is going to be ridiculously long. Oh well.

2013/2/22 -- Really enjoying how this is turning out. But getting desperate for 40º so I can add green. Even if I’ve got a fair amount of knitting to do to catch up to the current day.

2013/2/28 -- I’ve chosen not to use the neutral color as a demarcation between months, so there will be temporary tags of yarn instead, so I can keep track of where I am.

2013/3/4 -- Progress pictures through March 2nd posted.

2013/3/17 -- We finally hit 40º F a few days ago. Hence, green has joined the scarf.

2013/3/31 -- We hit 52º F yesterday, I get to break out the yellow-green.

2013/6/5 -- In May we hit 96° F, within 48 hours of having a low in the 30s.

2013/10/18 -- Working on this again. It was just too uncomfortable during the hot weather to hold all that wool on my lap. Have now completed July.

2013/12/1 -- It’s been evident since I put the blue-green aside (for temps in the 30s) in the spring, that I’d likely need more of it. This has been confirmed as I’ve been recording the cooler temperatures come autumn. Went to Needlework Unlimited today to get a second ball, and was happy to find it in stock.

2014/1/5 -- Finished September, where we saw the return of temperatures in the 40s and even 30s.

2014/1/12 -- Attached the second ball of blue-green for temps in the 30s. This should be the only color that needs a second skein. The next most-used color is yellow-green for the 50s, but I should have enough for the number of days that use it that remain.

2014/2/9 -- One year less a week from start to finish. Despite the monstrous size, about 11 feet long, I’m happy with it.
