2018/3/20 -- The base of this is garter stitch, so put a marker on the RS. The stitch count goes up rapidly, so am adding stitch markers every 20 sts to keep count.

2018/3/24 -- Since I am a combination knitter, in the Yarn-Over Stripe I’ve replaced K2tog with SSK. There’s no appreciable difference in appearance, and it’s so much easier.

2018/3/29 -- Have now transitioned from red-orange to orange. This was at around row 165 or 166. Which, from my two different estimates of finished rows, might be right around the 1/3 mark. This first color change doesn’t appear as abrupt as I feared. The loose openwork pattern probably helps break it up.

2018/4/1 -- For the lesser estimate of finished rows, 2/3 mark is around 232, which is now done and the yarn has transitioned to yellow.

2018/4/3 -- Have just finished the Drop Stitch Stripe with row 266. I don’t think I’ll have nearly enough yarn to get to row 288. Entering Yarn Chicken phase with a Garter Stitch Stripe. Hope I can do at least one garter row, and then have enough for bind off. Don’t want to bind off directly after the Drop Stitch Stripe.

Did one more row of garter (row 267). Trying Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off. Oops, not enough yarn. Try a variant: 1 stitch normal, 1 stitch JSSBO. Okay. That worked. With about 2 feet of yarn to spare.

Putting it out to block. All wetted down and pinned. In the basement. The basement is closed off now so that Gray Princess will not go down there and pull out the pins.

2018/4/5 -- Finished size after blocking: 43” x 54”

2018/4/10 -- After some experimentation, I have decided that this size works best as a scarf.
