Such a gorgeous pattern! Like the author, I get bored with too many of the same stitch or stitch pattern in a row. I am excited to try this one!
I am using fingering weight cotton yarn with a 3.5mm hook.
The finished piece has a diameter of 27 inches.
Each picture is my progress for the day.
21 July: I had to adjust row 2 to get the initial circle to lay flat.
Row 2: sc, 2 sc in the next st repeated around.
Row 3: skip 2 sc between each dc increase.
I also had a minor hiccup in Row 11. Somehow I missed 1 tr in each picot. If Row 13 bunches and the counting doesn’t make sense, double check that you have 7 tr in each picot in Row 11.
22 July: I finished last night with Row 16. Continuing today, it seemed like the project was going to bowl with Rows 17-20 not adding any increases, but magically it laid flat! That made me happy.
I’m playing with the color changes a little bit. I want a sort of ombre effect, so I kept Rows 20-22 the same color. I like the way it looks.
23 July: Row 28, the cross stitch row. The notes help a lot with this row. Making the second dc in back of the first dc is essential to not get your yarn mixed up in the stitches.
The V stitch (Rows 30-32) were also quite fun. Because of the color change, I do wish I had added an extra row in between of sc around the chains to bring out the color used in Row 30. Then fpdc2tog in the sc before and after the previous V for Row 31. It might make the rounds stiffer, but it would bring out the color more. Oh well. Next time.
24 July: No special tips to report for the next set of rows.
I love that with my color pattern I got an awesome ombre effect in Rows 34-38. I highly recommend trying to do those rows in 3 related colors. It looks really neat.
25 July: Row 40 is another of those rows that says “repeat X more times” which is just confusing enough for me to write a note. I found it easier to count that I have 9 tc in each shell (with a ch in between) than to rely on the counting as outlined in the pattern.
The second part of the Row 40 repeat also has funky counting. Since the tc tended to hide the hdc from Row 39, I found it easier to count 3 sts up from the sc3tog (in Row 39) to sl st in the right place, than to count sts from the ch-3.
26 July: Finished the last round! Too many ends to weave in. But it’s pretty!
Overall this was a fun pattern. Because of the changing repeats each round, it stitched up quickly. I didn’t get bored and let the project hibernate like I normally do. Really quite enjoyable!
