Notes

I bought one skein of the yellow yarn, and two mini-skeins--the gray and the black. I used up all of the mini-skeins and not all of the full skein.

The gauge and needles are noted on the photos. The liner was made with size 3, the outer shell on size 4.

This is a halo top hat, made according to the instructions here It does not have the easy-peasy band, however, but starts with a rolled edging (bottom photo).

I really like the halo top concept because there’s no need to work your texture or color-work pattern into the decreases--there is one giant decrease (which makes the halo top) and then the flat top of the hat (above the halo) can be plain, or patterned or hidden behind a giant pom-pom. The flat top of this one has a color-work pattern AND a pom-pom.

The pom-pom is merely tied inside the hat with a green yarn and a double bow, so it can be easily removed for washing. (green, so it can easily be seen)

Note that I didn’t have enough yarn to make the black stripes on the outer shell via two-color knitting, so I pinstriped them on after the fact.
