Notes

I have ripped the whole thing out and started over twice. Third time started using a lifeline but then got lazy and now I need to rip back to a lifeline that is about 20 rows in the past. Quite the learning experience.

for the long repeats in chart A, I finally worked out that counting each stitch out loud as I made it helped me not lose my place. Then place a stitch marker at the end of the repeat, count all stitches and fix any mistakes before moving on to the next repeat. It’s slow but faster than starting over every 20 rows.

The 12 stitch repeats in chart B are easier but i have caught a lot of mistakes by doing the same with the stitch marker and double checking every 12 stitches before moving on.

Neverthe less, I have somehow ended up a couple of stitches out and am going to seriously consider ripping back to my last lifeline. Next tip is don’t be lazy about placing lifelines. When everything is going well, every 5 rows seems too often, but when you find a miscount, it’s suddenly not so bad.

And I’ve broken my right thumb :-(. Put on hold for a while.

Here is my tip that I finally figured out. Color the right leaning decreases one colour and the lld another colour. You can mostly treat them as “words” so (k2tog, yo, k1) usually go together and (ssk, k1, yo) usually go together. So then with most of the charts you can see at a glance “ok I have to 4 yellow followed by 3 blue”. Then as you knit, just think to yourself “yellow 1, yo, knit; yellow 2, yo, knit; yellow 3…and so when you look back at yhe chart you visually can jump straight to the third yellow.decrease and see what’s coming next. Once you get into a rhythm doing this it becomes easier. Also placing a marker at the end of every repeat helps keep mistakes from spreading and makes them easier to find and fix.
