Notes

I KNOW:

  • The Remix Light KAL is almost over
  • Remix Light is not a sock yarn
  • I really have to move on with my life, away from Remix Light

HOWEVER:

  • It is all Berroco’s fault anyway, because THEY put the pattern into this week’s KnitBits
  • These lacy socks will be very comfy as “summer house slippers”, when I’m watching TV and the AC is blowing on my feet.
  • My KAL goal was to make things out of Remix Light, using different crafts (accomplished), from head to toe … wait! Where’s the toe part???

THEREFORE: I had to make socks using Remix Light.

A few more serious/useful notes:

  • Since the Remix Light is thicker than usual I changed the pattern to match that. Details will be provided below as I progress.
  • The original pattern had a mistake in the LACE PATTERN 1. If you already downloaded it, make sure your Rnd4 reads as follows: (star) K1, yo, k1, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k1, yo, rep from (star) around.
  • Here’s a link to an Excellent provisional cast on video on the Berroco site.

Pattern modifications for Remix Light:

  • Cast on 48 sts
  • Work 5 repeats of Lace Pat before starting the Heel Flap
  • Before starting the Heel Flap: I worked the flap over the second half of the stitches. To do: Knit 24 sts (or 1st row of Lace Pattern 2), then work the Heel Flap. This allows to more easily follow the lace pattern after working the heel. (This is important because the pattern is a 12 sts repeat, which would get messed up because you start with 48 instead of 60 stitches, and half of 48 vs half of 60 gets you 6 sts off. You could adjust the pattern, but then … why)
  • Shape Heel Flap: k23 (instead of k29) … leave remaining 24 sts (instead of 30 sts) … work 20 rows (instead of 26 rows)
  • Turn Heel: k13 (instead of k16), then work as given, you’ll just be done sooner. Heel Gusset: Has 16 sts (instead of 18 sts) of heel flap, pick up 10 sts (instead of 15 sts). Ends with 60 sts.

Done and not.

To finish the sock as given in the pattern:

  • Heel gusset: Pick up and knit 10 sts along the edges of the heel flap.
  • During the first round, work those picked up sts twisted, otherwise the holes get too big.
  • Shape Toe: Repeat decreases until there are a total of 16 sts left before doing the Kitchener St.

While working the sock according to the pattern, I started thinking that it might be a good idea to use up some of my scraps from the other Remix Light projects to make some “simple summer house” socks.

Tried and considered successful. I don’t think I have a preference for either pattern. The key is that the yarn feels really good on my feet.

I have two socks, which makes a pair, right? Ok, I will make matching socks.
