Notes

Martha Wissing, one of my top three favorite designers (and I don’t know who the other two are), released a new shawl pattern yesterday, Somerville. The construction is similar to her Greenwood shawl, but more delicate (the pattern asks for fingering weight yarn). It uses very summer inspired stitch patterns, like “Old Shell Cousin Lace” and “Wildflower Knot”. And it has a tassel!

When I saw the pattern, I wondered what it would look like in Remix Light … using the Almond color. Cameo Pink would probably look well, also.

I am very pleased to say that Martha did it again. Brilliant and pleasing all around. While the original yarn provides a sophisticated look, the Remix Light adds a more rustic, country style touch. For sure, the soft, light fabric predicts a cuddly future …

Note: Start the decreases in row 13 (it’s not clear in the instructions).

Note: Pull through the loops a little bit when knitting the “knot” pattern, that will make the “flower” part more visible.

Towards the end of the “Wildflower Knot Pattern 1” where it says “Rep rows 12-19 three times.-143 sts.” needs to read “Rep rows 12-19 three more times.-143 sts.”

“Ooy!” … as in emphasized “Oy!”

Webster Dictiononary: “Used especially to express exasperation or dismay.”

Me: O-ut O-f Y-arn!

The photos show how far I got with my first ball. The second ball is ordered and should be here soon.

I love the combination of Martha’s pattern and Berroco Remix Light!

All done! It’s out to dry.

A few closing comments:

  • Make sure you have the updated “V2” pattern instructions.
  • It took me five “Tatort” episodes to get through the second skein, all “wildflower knot 2”. I didn’t think the pattern was difficult, but it required patience. At the same time … the closer you get to the end, the closer is the TASSEL outlook!
  • I chuckled when I read in Martha’s instructions “Make a tassel with remaining yarn …” This may be HUGE if there’s much yarn left, I thought. Well, I should have know Martha … the amount of yarn left was just PERFECT to make the tassel, and I’m adding one picture with all the yarn that’s left (shown on top of the pattern).
  • I have to practice to properly wear this shawl because of its unusual symmetry. However, the fabric drapes amazingly well (tried it before blocking).
  • I do like the higher stitch density for the Berroco Remix Light.

Added final pictures.

After blocking, the fabric is a dream. The lace shows beautifully, the drape … just perfect.

I definitely like the tighter gauge for this yarn.

Martha’s design … there are so many different ways to wear this shawl, in old times I would have run out of film when taking pictures …

Overall, I think this project is my favorite out of the Remix Light projects I did during this KAL.
