Notes

Havsjal means Ocean Shawl in Norwegian.
Modifications and fixes in bold.
I am so happy with this! I haven’t blocked it, but I like the way it drapes now. I have been wearing it a lot this winter and early spring. I can either have it three times around my neck, for lots of warmth, or just once, loosely. Tip in front. Also very nice on my shoulders, with the tip in the back.

I got some new photos, the first ones are a disgrace… The pictures with the chair are taken on the roof of the new opera house in Oslo, Norway. Somebody had conveniently left it there for my improvised photoshoot ;) The chair, that is. If you are ever in Oslo, I strongly recommend a walk on the roof, it’s stunningly beautiful. The statue portrays Kirsten Flagstad, a famous soprano from Norway. She looked a little cold, with her arms bare in the chilly sunshine, so I lent her my shawl. Got a lot of smiles and weird looks from the tourists walking past :D

Modifications/fixes:
Instead of edging plus yo I knit the edging like this: kfb in the first stitch, k3, then stockinette or lace chart. That took away the yo rows on each edge of the shawl, of course, but it made for a consistent look throughout the whole.

This shawl started as a stockinette Scallo-pie. This gives a different shape than the original pattern, wider and more shallow. But I have no reason to believe that it wouldn’t look great with the original pattern too, it’s just that I changed my mind after knitting Scallo-pie for a while.

2010-11-12: I have no idea how long the edging took me, but I’m done. Had to take some webcam-pictures, just because. Will definitely get better pictures later, this shawl and pattern deserves it.

2010-11-09: Got a good chunk done now. But there’s something wrong in my row 29. When I got to the center stitch, I had one yo and k1 too many. Too tired to sort it out now, I’m going to bed.
Fixed this by k2tog with the yo, and skp on the other side of the center stitch. Might also have kept the k1, because I seem to have messed with the chart several times in just that point. Read the wrong line or something

2010-11-05: Have not worked on this for some days. Got the second part of the lace section done today. Had to rip back the yo-row, since I had some serious mistakes there. Or not, as it turned out. Just that I knit one stitch where I should have done skp directly after the k2tog. Pushed everything to the left, so meh.

Aaaaanyway. I love the way this turns out :) The yarns work very well with the pattern and vise versa.

2010-10-31: Added photos. Crappy quality, they are taken with the webcam on my laptop. Will get better ones later, I hope. Started the lace section today, I’m done with row 3. Something weird in the center of row 1, but it worked out. Had two stitches less than I should. I picked up the yarn between a knit stitch and the knit yo near the center stitch and made two extra stitches that way.

2010-10-30:
This Holden Shawlette started as a Scallo-pie. I didn’t quite have an idea for what I wanted to do, so I cast on for my fifth or seventh Scallo-pie and just knit away. Now that I have 171 stitches on the needles, I started to want a lacy edging instead of scallops.

Original notes:
This is a variation on the scallo-pie, but I intend it to be for a grown-up. Also I’m knitting it in stockinette instead of garter stitch, but with an edge of five garter stitches. Well, four, but since the first stitch on each row is knit two stitches in one, it’s five total.

Made with two yarns held together. One is selfstriping, with long colourshifts, the other is a thin, quite hard woolen yarn on a cone. Dark blue, with hints of green and black. I like the effect of them together. Plus, I can knit with a bigger needle.

Unsure of what kind of edging I want. Some kind of lace, probably not the scallops from the original pattern. Something that will add length, since the pattern gives very wide and thin scarves.
