This shawl was knit for a good friend’s sister who was recently diagnosed with Stage IV, metastatic ovarian cancer. Elizabeth Zimmermann’s quote, “Knit on with confidence and hope through all crises” was never more apropos. I hope that in some small way Mimi can feel a little warmth and comfort when wearing it.

This pattern was a thoroughly enjoyable knit! In fact, I actually knit it in 4 days from cast on to blocking—true story. I did add one extra repeat of Chart A, but aside from that I didn’t have any other modifications. I strongly suggest you heed Ms. Ross’ advice on knitting the final wrong side row of Chart B loosely to facilitate binding off. I didn’t, and it made binding off a bit difficult at times. The pattern is EXCELLENTLY written!

I actually loved the result so much that I took this piece to this year’s Men’s Fall Knitting Retreat in Seattle as one of my two show-and-tell projects. I’d like to thank my wonderful boyfriend, Kerry, for gifting me the yarn. He’s turned me into a Wollmeise junkie! The color is amazing and it blocked out beautifully! When I got back from my trip and unpacked the shawl to mail off, it still looked like it had just been taken off of the blocking pins!

I will definitely knit this pattern again! The border is gorgeous, albeit a little tricky. In fact, it’s the only reason why I rated the pattern as “medium” in difficulty.

Please feel free to PM me with any questions!
