6-15-12 Just ordered my yarn and pattern. Can’t wait to get started! This is my first KAL (mystery or otherwise).

6-20-12 Well, it’s the official first day of the KAL and my yarn still hasn’t arrived - POO!

6-21-12 Yarn arrived and it’s DELICIOUS (and believe me when I say I’m not one of those guys that just throw that adjective around haphazardly to describe something inedible). The color is amazeballs and it’s wonderfully soft and wooly. It’s not overly spun and should have good definition. After much debate I’ve decided to use beads in lieu of nupps, which I rarely do (replace one for the other, that is). I prefer nupps in lace weight yarn and this yarn is screaming for some beads. I casted on 295 sts (one extra repeat of 18 sts) using the LTCO. I sailed through the first chart without so much as a glitch. I’m hoping the rest of the shawl will go as smoothly. Did I mention that the yarn weighed in with a 1/4 oz extra? That translated to 24 extra yards which afforded me the extra repeat--WIN!

6-27-12I was so anxious for the next clue, but I couldn’t knit yesterday when it was released. My youngest (16 yo) cousin had all of her wisdom teeth pulled on the 26th and I took her and recovered her while her Mom had to work. She had a hard time with the anesthesia and threw up more than Reagan in “The Exorcist.” So I was finally able to knit Clue B today. The pattern is very intuitive and is fun to knit up and I’m so in love with the way the yarn is complimenting the design!

7-3-12I was working call, so I was up when the pattern updated at midnight. I was able to get the first 4 rows done in the call room until the units started buzzing around 0300. I finished Clue C after I got home from rounds. Since I had so many beads left over, I decided to add some in places I thought would be appropriate. I figured if I didn’t like my rogue placement in the end, I could always break them off easily before I did the final blocking. I’m trying to copy the chevrons in Wendy’s beautiful design. So far so good. Now I’m going to be anxiously awaiting the next clue. I thought of doing an extra repeat, as instructed by Wendy, but I’m not sure how much surplus yardage I have. I think I’ve decided to wait to add an extra repeat set on the next clue after I have a better idea of how it’s going to play out. So, this clue is knit exactly as written (save the one extra repeat I casted on in the beginning for an increase in width).
