Used Fair Isle chart with my own baby hat pattern. On Size 3 DPNs, CO 90 st with long tail cast-on (distribute 30 stitches on each of 3 needles), work 3x3 ribbing for 1-1/2” before changing to Size 5 DPNs. The stitch pattern is worked across 15 stitches; on 90 stitches, I can do two repeats per DPN.

Decrease rounds:

Round 1: K8, K2tog, repeat to end of round (EOR)
Round 2: Knit around
Round 3: K7, K2tog, repeat to EOR
Round 4: Knit around
Round 5: K6, K2tog, repeat to EOR
Round 6: Knit around
Round 7: K5, K2tog, repeat to EOR
Round 8: Knit around
Round 9: K4, K2tog, repeat to EOR
Round 10: Knit around
Round 11: K3, K2tog, repeat to EOR
Round 12: Knit around
Round 13: K2, K2tog, repeat to EOR
Round 14: Knit around
Round 15: K1, K2tog, repeat to EOR
Round 16: Knit around
Round 17: K2tog, repeat to EOR

Break yarn and thread through a tapestry needle. Weave through remaining stitches and tug gently to close the opening. Weave in ends.
