this is the closest I’ve come to that elusive ‘trifecta’ as my sister-in-law calls it…perfect yarn, perfect pattern, perfect needle size…I wouldn’t change a thing!
sorry about the overabundance of photos ~ I get a little obnoxious with the pictures when I’m really pleased with something ;)
photos show worn long, doubled, and folded in half lengthwise as well as doubled…very versatile!

5-26-2012 - finished size: circumference=48 1/2”
width=6”
completely inspired by marybuttons etsy shop woven bag
woven, this colorway is amazing!!!, so I ordered the very last hank of Weasleypants from twoifbyhand’s online shop to knit my first linen stitch cowl
I think it will be a perfect pairing!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
gauge (unblocked): 4”= 50rows / 31stitches (hard to believe but it’s true! I would have thought with a large needle even with small yarn you’d get a bigger gauge but due to the stitch pattern and my freakishly tight knitting, it is what it is! it makes a gorgeous fabric!)
mods:
- I started out with the magic# caston 149 that everyone seems to love but started over when I decided that I wanted an eternity cowl, so caston 301 for a longer loop that can be doubled when worn
- round 2 starts ‘slip 1’…make sure to slip 1 with yarn in front even though it doesn’t say so!
- used long-tail caston for stretch
- used a super-stretchy bind off so the cast off edge has a little flare to it … (k1, k1, slide both st back to left needle, k2togtbl, k1, slide both st back to left needle, k2togtbl, etc, to end)
also….the bread baker that my yarn is sitting in is a purchase I made from my rav friend knitsandpots, who is not only a fantastic knitter, but she and her husband make some amazing pottery, including yarn keepers :) … there’s a link on Amy’s rav home page to their etsy shop if you want to take a peek!
