“Tan Sampler” by Bonnie Barker, made with Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn in Cranberry.

09-24-2017

Background story: For one of Hubs’ best friend’s wife. After I made both the kids a blanket using that big squishy Bernat Blanket yarn, Hubs asked me to go ahead and make Jessica one too, in this pattern, which is the same as the giftghan I made for my niece, Rachel. I asked her favorite color, the answer was “red”. Now that can go wrong with so many shades!

So, the men were trying to be sneaky about asking Jessica if this is the right shade of red, and Mike (Hubs’ friend) showed Jessica the picture with Kane’s nose in it, “laughing” about how Kane and Zeus are always photobombing my pictures. She asked what the red square in the basket was, “Oh, that’s a blanket Val is working on right now,” and her reply was “Oh, that’s my favorite color!” So I guess I did good choosing ILTY in Cranberry! And that’s the story behind this blanket. This and the kids’ blankets will be mailed off to them (they live up north USA) for Christmas. This is to be done completely in the same color, and this time I bought all the yarn at once, probably no fringes on this one either, but I’ll decide on that in about 2+ months when I get to that point.

5 more to go!

I finished the last square, except for weaving in ends, this last weekend. I’ll weave the ends and join it, probably this week.

On about Monday, I suddenly decided what I’m going to do with the border, so I am presently working on that --
in between trying to work, sleep, and it sitting there being stared at because I’ve been sick this week. Wednesday afternoon I went to Urgent Care, it’s viral not the flu, but got two shots in the butt, and I already feel a good deal better. Like, I’ll be able to work a full night tonight and catch up on some missing hours Thurs/Friday. But I do think I’ll be able to finish this border this weekend!

Border:
Equalizing border: SC done with back of afghan facing me (to help with any forward curling)
R1: SC on front side (3 in corners)
R2: DC around (5 in corners)
R3a: Reverse SC (crab stitch) in FLO.
R3b: SC around (3 in corners in BLO.
R4: (sc, ch5, sk 2, sc) around, with corners as (sc, ch5, sc)
R5-6: Repeat R4 with sc in ch5 sp of previous row ((this gives a 3-row “mesh” look)
R7: Picot round, will edit this part later.

The pictures are awful. I used the big camera (Canon), too. The colors are too dark, and it looks terribly unfocused. I’ll see if I can take better pictures before this gets mailed off. My preferred camera (Sony) is out at my dad’s house, I think.

I put the camera on “auto”, so they’re a little better, but now a bit too bright. I can’t quite capture the Cranberry color, I’m not photographer, unfortunately.
