I discovered this old pattern and decided to knit my elderly Mum a bed jacket for her birthday, as she feels the cold a lot these days.

26-Jan-2014 So far the pattern instructions almost confounded the best knitting minds in our group! My thanks to my lovely friend, Ruth, for all her invaluable help. At last the problem was resolved as follows:

ERRATA: Shell Pattern Row 1: says to last 23 sts, yf, knit to end. This part should be deleted and the first part of instruction, before this, should be followed to get the correct pattern repeats.

Another Pattern instruction errata is for the BACK shaping where instructions were given to repeat rows on one side but not the first! Hence the final instruction before cast off for back to: Repeat last two rows once more should also be ignored.

I didn’t add the ribbon, but crocheted a loop and sewed on a large button, which would be easier for Mum at 85yrs. I also omitted one row of shell pattern, so that it is shorter than the garment in the pattern photo.
