Tips:
Yardage: This blanket can eat up your skeins of yarn! Make sure you have enough on-hand to finish because I had to reorder twice!!
Stitch markers: Make sure you use these for the pattern repeats. Normally I don’t bother but with a pattern this repetitive those markers are a lifesaver!
Bind-off The blanket just says bind-off neatly. I found that a standard knit bind-off done slowly is a nice finish.
Official Blanket Stats
Needle Size: US 3 and US 4
Yarn: Cascade Ultra Pima, Sage ~1380 yards
A nice soft cotton yarn that has a silky feel and doesn’t dry out the hands while knitting with it. Washing only makes it softer!
Dimensions: I cast on 187 stitches and knit 8 instances of the lace chart.
Things Learned: That repetitive blanket patterns are great for bedside knitting while taking care of loved ones but not so great for my sanity.
Thoughts: Worth it!!! I love how this blanket turned out in the end. about a quarter of the way in I started getting worried about the pattern being too boring, however, once completed and blocked its perfect! Cute but definitely not a quick knit. Great for picking up and putting down and not keeping track of where you left off.
Next time I’m using thicker yarn!! This way I can finish quicker. This DK was skinny and I’ve had fingering yarns as thick.
3-14-15 Happy Pi Day! I’m officially done with the blanket and I have it blocked. I knit like a mad person so that I could get this done for the 22nd which is when the baby shower is. I sure hope they like it!
1-30-15 I’m thankful this is a time sync. The repetitive pattern is perfect for knitting while at my Mom’s bedside when its my turn to watch her. Its growing rapidly.
1-20-15 Wow… I don’t know if I’m ever going to attempt a blanket again. It is a time sync. And repetitive. Pattern is turning out lovely and I’m sure once washed the yarn will be even softer!
1-16-15 After a lot of thought into which yarn to use I decided to go for Cascade Ultra Pima. Mainly because I know the parents would want a non-synthetic natural fiber but no wool involved yarn. That kind of left me with the option of cotton or bamboo. So cotton it is!
