Notes

Such a wonderful cardigan. Love it.

10.07.2014
Wrong zipper. Ordered new one.

05.07.2014
Buying zipper today @ Stam handwerkwinkel.

03.07.2014
Casting off. Attached (mitered) facing to inside. The corners for mitering were made with double increases/decreases rather than facing, symmetrical in- and decreases. Picked up sts around sleeve to make an extra facing for the raw sleeve sts. Tacked that down ---> neat!

While working with the Spindrift, what struck me was the absolute mesmerizing beauty of the colours (so many favourites already!) and the relative stickiness. This meant it was finally possible to do steeks without reinforcement. I did cut them very early (to try the garment on), and worked on the cardigan with unfinished steeks. Nothing unraveled at all.

30.06.2014
To calm myself down, this was good ‘therapy’ to work on during the Netherlands soccer match against Mexico.

27.06.2014
Sleeves finished. Picked up edging with 2.5 mm needles. Continiung the green system; basically that’s working with leftovers.

24.06.2014
Approaching end of sleeve 2. Thinking about front opening edging.

19.06.2014
One sleeve finished. Cut the remaining steeks, because I was too curious about the actual fit. So far. So good. Raw steek edges will be covered with nice ribbon if/where necessary.

17.06.201
Approaching end of sleeve, tapering plus going down to size 2.5 mm needles. Probably Ribbed cuff because sleeve still has some width.

16.06.2014
Cut straight through the steek sts without any reinforcement at all :))
Top down set in short row sleeves. Continuing with all greens that have been wound into a ball previously with the ‘oprulning’ method. Tempted to add a dash of red, but resisted so far. Using sleeve tutorial:
http://bygumbygolly.com/2013/10/how-to-knit-seamless-set-in-sleeves-from-the-top-down/. Frogged and started the sleeve anew, ended up with waaaay too many sts. Picked up all sts around the armhole and decreased one third where possible. Watching Germany cutting Portugal into pieces, soccer-wise (goodgood).

11.06.2014
At the back neck opening, preparing the steek stitches. Still unsure what to do with the sleeves (I do not wear vests). Thinking about simple stripes for minimal bulk. Frogged back a bit because armhole would have been too big.

06.06.2014
At the armholes. Size just fine at this point.
Lengthened the body a bit by adding 1 extra leaf repeat. Did the same for chest section as I do not want the full, round, colourful flowers at chest height :)) For the background I used three different, neutral colours (Rye, Eesit & Pebble). Next flower section different than the first. LOVE the Spindrift and intend to use it in the future.

29.05.2014
Placing 3 leaf repeats between the flowers to alter the position of the upper flowers and to get a greener overall look.

22.05.2014
Ordered a couple of red shades extra. For the red section I may go 'christel seyfarth'/Oprulning as well.

19.05.2014
Green section with the Christel Seyfath system; several lengths of greens randomly wound into a big ball.
It will make the leaf section a bit more mindless. From Christel’s page:

The working technique is one where yarn colours from the kit’s colour groups are rolled up in different lengths in two or three new balls of yarn. This makes it possible to work with only two colours at any time throughout the knitting, even though there may be as many as 20 colours in the model. This is a fun and very creative technique, clearly described in my patterns.

You can watch her doing exactly this on YouTube.

The lower part of the body, before the waist, will be a bit longer. Looked into several cute bee patterns, but I do want to leave Tori’s design more or less intact. Decided on adding extra leaves instead.

Was looking for something other than the usual Fair Isle. Perhaps a Blomekrans with a green neutral background, as per Tori’s pattern. No ribbing; a turned hem with Latvian braid. A greenish ?cardigan? as in “how many cardigans can you own”. Maybe a sweater, a longer sweater, without the ribbing? With striped sleeves?
