Notes

Evidently, I must be the only knitter with love for this pattern! This is the fourth one I’ll have made, as it is the twin to Pine-y, which is the same yarn in other colorways. If you have not tried double knitting before, this introduction is not difficult. It involves only one color at a time, on every other block.

Honestly, your brain wants to make the simple instructions - k1, sl1 purlwise with yarn in front 11 times - more difficult than they are. Try it and i think you’ll like it. It is a fun knit, especially for those Purl-O-Phobes out there.

Essentially, you knit a stitch/slip a stitch to the end (over an even number of stitches) and do the same on the backside. This construction technique creates a double sided ‘envelope’ in stockinette stitch. The size difference between these blocks and the adjoining garter stitch blocks creates a wobbly bubble effect. This is like a ‘student driver’ version of some of Kieran Foley’s brilliant effects in his series of Bubbles designs. If you want a visual treat, take a look at his work in color and pattern.

I usually finish off my blankets with an attached I-cord edge. This extended version, 7 x 11 blocks (he’s tall, she’s not, but they should be the same size, yes?) took less than 50 grams for a four-stitch corded edge, knit in the Mesa colorway. I chose the skein that had the least color variance of the skeins on hand.
