Notes

Completely failed to get any photos of the last socks I made before they were finished, so the plan with these is to take a photo of my progress each day, and mark the day on the photo so I can see how well I keep to the plan. Would like to finish these by the end of the month.
《Finished on 30th January》

Day one - Cast on, increased to 68st, then 12 more rounds to complete longer contrast toes.
Day two - Switched to main yarn, knitted even for 36 rounds to where the gusset increases will start.
Day three - Knitted to the end of the (16) gusset increases.
Day four- Turned heels and decreased back down to 68st. Sock one knitted leg section to approx 45 rows.
Day five - Both legs finished (56rows).
Day six - Finished blush

How much of the Kingfisher colourway I have leftover after this second pair from that 100g ball - about 12cm!
Close up of Fleegle heel meeting the leg - look at that corner - so smooth…
The last couple are just me being impressed by the colours - they really are lovely!

Planned changes from Blueberry Kingfisher Socks:

○ Try and work out how to avoid that hole at the top of the gusset on the right hand side - does using the Winwick mum method of switching to new yarn help? (Youtube)

○ Maybe add in an extra round in each bubblegum stripe in the leg section to give a bit more length? Or knit every other round in the leg section with the Bubblegum - this would lengthen it considerably…

Yarn:

○ Bubblegum (360) matches perfectly with one of the blues from the Kingfisher (844) colourway - the darkest blue is Blueberry Bonbon (365), and I think the palest turquoise is Spearmint (309), and Bubblegum (360) is the other one. Very precise and helpful I’m sure!

○ My first ball of Kingfisher had blue splodges through the orange section - WYS were kind enough to replace this for me, but worth keeping in mind. Problem arises because there are so many different colour sections it’s tricky to spot from a quality control perspective. Although this one has some too, I love the colours and I think it’s just something you have to be prepared to put up with when there are this many different colours in a colourway.

○ Love WYS 4ply. Soft to work with but hardwearing - I’ve found it perfect for socks.

○ Rewound the 25(ish)g balls of Kingfisher before starting these (from the centre pull so as to keep the same colour point to start) - glad I did as this helps keep everything together a bit more!

Needles:

○ Have been using 2.5mm dpns despite ball band recommending 3.25mm, could probably go down to 2.25 for the foot but don’t want to have to mess about with the stitch count!

Changes for next time:

○ Try and work out the last gusset stitches - better on the second sock (decreased last two at back of heel instead of edges, think this would be better with four or maybe eight stitches in between) but still feels a little bit bodged at the moment.
《 Really impressed with how the top corners of the Fleegle heel look on both sides though - check out the close up photo》

Pattern:

○ Cast on 2AAT toes on 2.5mm circs (14 st per needle, Turkish Cast on, inc 1, 3, 1, 3, all, 1, 3, all, 1, 3, all, 1, all, all, 1). Knit on to 2.5mm dpns after increases (12 more rnds for long toes) then work sections on each sock in turn.

○ 36 rnds(after long toes) before first increase, then lifted inc from within gusset at far edge. Inc every other round, 16 stitches for each gusset.

○ Fleegle heel directions. (Knit 2 past centrally placed marker, k2tog, k; then turn, slip 1 pw then purl to 2 past central marker, SSP, p; turn and repeat closing gap each time.

○ End when 2 stitches left on each side, but on the knit row immediately after decreasing to 2, slide those two straight across to the left needle, switch yarn and knit with the main yarn across the top of the heel. When you reach the last 3 stitches before the marker, switch third and second stitch to opposite needles before SSK to avoid holes. Double check stitch count after final decreases - should be 68.

○ Knit for between 50 and 60 rnds(depending on stripe pattern and colours) before switching to contrast yarn for a single round before 2x2 ribbing for 21 rnds. JSSBO.

Working Notes:

○ 56 round leg brought both legs to the end of the speckled section immediately before the Bubblegum stripe, which is perfect as this is the colour I’ll be doing the ribbed cuffs
